The Actors Workshop Launches with Ana Kokkinos

Ana Kokkinos launches Brave Studios Actors Workshop series

Film Maker / Director Ana Kokkinos has launched our Professional Series actors workshop. A 2 day intensive workshop for industry professionals wanting to exercise their talents and/or expand their own process.

Over the last twenty+ years Ana has established herself as one of Australia’s most innovative and creative film makers. Ana hold titles such as ‘Only the Brave’, ‘Head On’  and ‘Blessed’ to her name. She has firmly stamped her mark on the Australian film making landscape. Her television credits include Secret Life of Us and more recently Time of our Lives. Her process and eye for detail have garnered her widespread acclaim from many Australian actors.

The actors workshop provides an exclusive opportunity for professional actors to work with Ana and learn her process for bringing a script to life; a process which can be transferred and used with any script from audition through to performance.

All Actors involved were left wanting more after being introduced to Ana’s unique and beneficial process. Ana Kokkinos has an extraordinary ability to pinpoint what is not working in a scene instantly as well as breaking down a block that might be holding an actor’s performance back. All professional actors involved in the Actors course, including Ana, were reminded how important it was to continue with acting training no matter how experienced an actor you are. Working with other actors on scenes and getting out on the floor to flex those acting muscles can only do you well. After the success of our first Actors workshop, Ana Kokkinos and Brave Studios are very excited to continue working together and look forward to announcing our next workshops soon. Ana is now working on a number of new projects and we can only wish her the best of success. Thank you Ana and to all the Actors involved in ‘The Actors Workshop’. We can’t wait to see you again soon.

“It was a pure delight to be in a safe, encouraging environment surround by like minded artists and be at the helm of someone you admire in a warm space. Thank you for creating that … Ana is gracious, honest and inspiring. She brings a beautiful nurturing element into rehearsals where you feel safe, comfortable and free. It was a pure delight to work with her and the other artists.”
Ben Noble

“Absolutely amazing weekend – learning and flexing our acting muscles in a safe place. Ana gave insightful, clear and tailored direction and feedback for each individual to take their acting to the next level. The two intensive days allowed us to focus on particular processes/areas in detail”

Acting Classes, Drop-in Classes for the Advanced Actor.

acting classes with Damian Walshe-Howling at Brave Studios

Drop-in Acting Classes at Brave Studios for Advanced Actors.

Acting classes are important for all actors. As actors we can become very lazy waiting around (or wishing) for the phone to ring … sound familiar? You can wait all you want, but we advise that rather than hanging around for those elusive calls from your agent be pro’act’ive!
If you really want to get into gear come together with your fellow actors and do some scene work at Brave Studios. Our drop-in acting classes are all about actors coming together and working on scenes.

Drop-In classes at Brave Studios are run by Brave Studios’ Director Elle Mandalis and course Director and actor Damian Walshe-Howling. Our acting drop in classes are provided for actors needing to keep their skills alive and fresh.

Our latest group of actors got so much out of the drop in acting class, they left wanting more.

It is important to come together and get playful with other actors to get to the truth of a performance. How often do you get the chance to flex your muscles in a safe environmnet to explore your acting skills? Most actors will answer ‘not enough’. We encourage actors to stop themselves from falling into the trap of moaning about not getting work and get proactive, meet people, make connections in the industry. Remember that there is truth in the adage that it’s ‘who you know’. We find that after working together in acting classes and intensives at Brave Studios, many of our acting students want to continue working with the people they have met in class. Creative juices start to flow and out of it new creative works are often born. Damian and Elle guide actors to get to the truth of the scene using many techniques depending on how the individual student responds. All acting students find these sessions invaluable espesially observing other actors doing the work. We also have actors coming in to just observe for the night and walk away just as inspired as those involved.

Contact us to register your interest in upcoming acting intensive and drop-in classes. All applicants are required to email a CV to for consideration.

Participants must have experience equivalent to the Advanced Acting Intensive and/or professional experience or training.

Advanced TV Presenters Course off to a great start

Advanced TV Presenter Course with Damian Walshe-Howling

Advanced TV Presenters Course gives professional presenters a confidence boost.

As a TV presenter in the Australian industry, if you could choose to be mentored by just one industry professional you would choose Logie award winning producer Pam Barnes. An industry veteran Pam has been executive producer at GTV and the brains behind Carols by Candelight and the Logies. During her 40 + year in television Pam has worked with presenters such as Bert Newton, Graham KennedyDon LaneDaryl and Ossie on Hey Hey, It’s Saturday.

The advanced TV Presenters course first ran in 2013 and proved to be a very popular course, catering for professionals in the industry who were looking to upgrade their skills and boost their showreels. Participating students each received mentoring from course director Pam Barnes and course mentors George Macencroe from TV’s The Circle and Australian Actor Damian Walshe-Howling.

For their final shoot participants were asked to research and conduct an interview with Damian Walshe-Howling, an experience that proved the be an important lesson in the importance of research and appropriateness of questions asked. This final shoot compliments the other pieces shot throughout the course. We are looking forward to seeing the final edits.

“I really enjoyed it. It was a good group of people to bounce off and learn from which adds to the experience. I loved working with Pam, I felt a true sense of professionally working rather than just a class-teacher situation. I also enjoyed George and her time with us, she had great insight, tips and suggestions that were really helpful. Damian was the same, he was very generous and I loved that he took the time to discuss the interview with me afterwards. Damien and Elle were also great, very supportive environment and lots of fun. I think the only thing I wanted was a longer course because I enjoyed it so much I want to keep going.”
