When referring to the film that he intends to make Damian Walshe Howling said “I’ve basically written a story that’s looking at linking concepts of ancient culture and the modern world … our romantic views of certain ways of living that we go after in the modern world, We covet these old wisdoms that I guess what they’re saying is come back to yourself, come back to simplicity. But it’s very much set within the Australian landscape.” We are so proud of Damian Walshe Howling and cannot wait to see what 2016 has in store for him. Go Damo!
Ana Kokkinos launches Brave Studios Actors Workshop series
Film Maker / Director Ana Kokkinos has launched our Professional Series actors workshop. A 2 day intensive workshop for industry professionals wanting to exercise their talents and/or expand their own process.
Over the last twenty+ years Ana has established herself as one of Australia’s most innovative and creative film makers. Ana hold titles such as ‘Only the Brave’, ‘Head On’ and ‘Blessed’ to her name. She has firmly stamped her mark on the Australian film making landscape. Her television credits include Secret Life of Us and more recently Time of our Lives. Her process and eye for detail have garnered her widespread acclaim from many Australian actors.
The actors workshop provides an exclusive opportunity for professional actors to work with Ana and learn her process for bringing a script to life; a process which can be transferred and used with any script from audition through to performance.
All Actors involved were left wanting more after being introduced to Ana’s unique and beneficial process. Ana Kokkinos has an extraordinary ability to pinpoint what is not working in a scene instantly as well as breaking down a block that might be holding an actor’s performance back. All professional actors involved in the Actors course, including Ana, were reminded how important it was to continue with acting training no matter how experienced an actor you are. Working with other actors on scenes and getting out on the floor to flex those acting muscles can only do you well. After the success of our first Actors workshop, Ana Kokkinos and Brave Studios are very excited to continue working together and look forward to announcing our next workshops soon. Ana is now working on a number of new projects and we can only wish her the best of success. Thank you Ana and to all the Actors involved in ‘The Actors Workshop’. We can’t wait to see you again soon.

Advanced TV Presenters Course gives professional presenters a confidence boost.
As a TV presenter in the Australian industry, if you could choose to be mentored by just one industry professional you would choose Logie award winning producer Pam Barnes. An industry veteran Pam has been executive producer at GTV and the brains behind Carols by Candelight and the Logies. During her 40 + year in television Pam has worked with presenters such as Bert Newton, Graham Kennedy, Don Lane, Daryl and Ossie on Hey Hey, It’s Saturday.
The advanced TV Presenters course first ran in 2013 and proved to be a very popular course, catering for professionals in the industry who were looking to upgrade their skills and boost their showreels. Participating students each received mentoring from course director Pam Barnes and course mentors George Macencroe from TV’s The Circle and Australian Actor Damian Walshe-Howling.
For their final shoot participants were asked to research and conduct an interview with Damian Walshe-Howling, an experience that proved the be an important lesson in the importance of research and appropriateness of questions asked. This final shoot compliments the other pieces shot throughout the course. We are looking forward to seeing the final edits.
“I really enjoyed it. It was a good group of people to bounce off and learn from which adds to the experience. I loved working with Pam, I felt a true sense of professionally working rather than just a class-teacher situation. I also enjoyed George and her time with us, she had great insight, tips and suggestions that were really helpful. Damian was the same, he was very generous and I loved that he took the time to discuss the interview with me afterwards. Damien and Elle were also great, very supportive environment and lots of fun. I think the only thing I wanted was a longer course because I enjoyed it so much I want to keep going.”

Acting student to join the Neighbours Cast
Congratulations to Calen Mackenzie, a Greentree Acting School / Brave Studios student who has just joined the Neighbours cast.
Calen is a current student of Greentree Acting School (Brave Studios junior School) Calen has been a student training with Greentree for over 5 years. In that time he has won many roles in television programs and feature films including Rush, Time of our lives, The mystery of a Hansom cab, Laid, and Face to Face.
His new role playing Bailey in the Neighbours cast is an on going lead role. Neighbours casting director Thea McLeod auditioned and cast Calen in the new lead role due to hit the screen in 2013.
Calen continues to train at our Junior wing Greentree Acting School in between filming at Neighbours. He knows how important it is to continue your acting training to keep your acting skills fresh and alive.
Some of the best actors in the world still train regularly to constantly challenge their craft and skills.
Phillip Seymore Hoffman once said “Study, find all the good teachers and study with them, get involved in acting to act, not to be famous or for the money. Do plays. It’s not worth it if you are just in it for the money. You have to love it.” .To start winning roles you have to put in the hard work and invest in yourself continuously. The roles will not just come to you, you have to work hard at the craft and train as an actor in between work and when there is no work at all. Calen has never given up or gotten lazy. He attends classes on a regular basis and continues to challenge himself. This is how Calen is winning roles and continues to be cast in Australian Film and TV.
Keep up the great work Calen. We will be supporting you all the way.
