Beginner acting course  Beginner acting course

A Beginner’s Acting Course in 8 Week Blocks.

Always wanted to give acting a shot but not sure how? Or perhaps you’ve had some experience but want to take it to the next level?

Our Beginner Acting course is a great place to start for those who have had no experience at acting, or no previous comprehensive training. We encourage people of all ages above 18 to apply (for those under 18 please see our Kids Acting School Greentree Acting School)

In 8-week blocks, we take you through from the ground-up in a comprehensive overview of acting. We introduce you to different techniques, discuss the industry and teach you how to be in front of the camera.

As a beginner actor, there is a lot to learn to get to the truth of a scene and character. This Beginner Acting course will take you through the process of approaching a script and developing a character to deliver a strong and believable performance.

Our Beginner Acting course will introduce you to the language we use in the industry and the processes involved in acting. This includes:

  • Breaking down the barriers of fear and how to deal with nerves
  • Script analysis
  • Techniques for learning a script
  • Character development
  • Techniques to help you get to the truth of a scene
  • Working scenes with a professional actor in class
  • Learning scene objectives

All of these elements will be applied in front of a camera.

As a beginner actor, there is a lot to discover and absorb and can be overwhelming at times. In most cases, students choose to do the beginners training ground several times until the knowledge and techniques sink in, make sense, and they start to work with ease. This course is designed to be completed as many times as you need until you are ready to move into the next level of training, The Actors Workshop.

In order for our beginner acting students to move into the Actors Workshop, applicants must show that they have a clear understanding of all the techniques covered in the beginners training ground. Students will be assessed accordingly by the school and course directors after their self test with one of Melbourne’s casting agents.

View our reading list for the course here.

If you’d like to get a taste of what this course involves without committing straight away to 8-weeks, you can join us for one of our 3-hour introduction to acting workshops held regularly at Brave Studios.

Brave Studios is an acting school run by actors, for actors, of all levels of expreience from beginners to professionals. All teachers and course directors have extensive experience and are all regularly working in the industry.

We pride ourselves on providing individual attention and feedback. All classes have a strict size limit of 14 people per class so that you will have sufficient time on the floor working with the teacher each and every class. We also provide you with a detailed full page of feedback upon completion of the final night of the course.

In the Beginner’s Acting Course, you will work opposite a professional actor in Week 4, and complete a screen-test with a casting director from Nick Hamon Casting in your final week.

“I just wanted to email you and let you know how blown away I was with the beginner class this term. After doing the course a couple of times I went into this term with a few things under my belt however this time round I seemed to hear things from Mark differently, things Mark was explaining seemed to make sense!!! I felt like I could really work with the information he was giving me. I didn’t feel like that during the last few times I had done the class – which made me realise that by doing this course again was the right choice. I left finishing this term with a real fire in my belly wanting to learn more and more.  I want to thank you for creating this incredible course – as I know now there is so much to learn in this craft! Mark, Elle & Damien really help provide all the information in such a way that you can really understand. I’m so very glad I did this course again! It was so worth it!!!! I will be back next term for sure. Again thank you so very much – this course was wonderful!”
Kyla Kay

“I’ve never done any acting or acting courses before, and am finding that I’m learning heaps and gaining a lot from it. It’s only 2 weeks in, but I’m already thinking “Oh, only 6 weeks left, I want this acting course to go longer!”
Paul France

“In my experience, this is the only acting course that has focused so heavily on this method (scene objectives and actions) and before Brave I didn’t understand the importance of determining these aspects of a scene.  However, I can now see that this is the most crucial part of understanding a scene and it will enhance the performance dramatically. The course is a great stepping stone for any actor at the beginning of their career or even just for a refresher course.  It teaches all the basics you need to know to make a scene real and honest. It’s also great to experience being in front of a camera and feeling comfortable doing so. Also, having a casting director present for the final class is amazing because it gives actors the opportunity to experience an audition atmosphere.”
Sienna Stass

“I’m really happy at the style of classes, considering it was my first time I was slightly worried that I was about to embark on something extremely theatrical (which is the complete opposite to what I was after as an actor) and it wasn’t! It was exactly what I was after, more focused on true feelings of movement and performance.
Natalie Astone

“This course has given me the confidence in myself to pursue acting. Before the course I wasn’t confident I could achieve anything like I have now. I feel like I know a lot more about the industry, acting and myself to learn and strive for exciting acting possibilities.”
R Stephens

“I had so much fun with this class! In the short time I’ve been with Brave I’ve already developed so many fond memories and formed new friendships. I’ve also gained the necessary foundations to be able to enter into the acting industry. The professionalism in which Brave Studios conducts their classes makes everyone feel welcome and I can’t wait to come back.”
Alex Hecker

“Just a quick note to say thank you! I am half way through my acting course – Acting for Camera Level 1, with Mark and I am loving it! Mark is a great teacher who shares his knowledge and experience in a manner which is effortless, creating a relaxed, safe and comfortable environment for his students! The most rewarding aspect of doing this training is actually having the ability to apply the learnings in practice. The results were evident in a recent audition piece I did, my skillset had clearly improved, providing a stronger more solid performance!!! Thanks again to the team at Brave Studios xoxox”
Roslyn Rayias

“The Beginner Acting course was wonderful. There was plenty of opportunity to practice acting and become familiar with the camera. Working with a professional actor and casting director was particularly worthwhile. It was an opportunity to gauge your own progress and solicit feedback regarding the casting process.”
James Piper

“I probably felt like my acting excelled the most when Elle stepped in at week four and week eight. I like being ‘pushed’ by a professional and Elle made me feel very safe to ‘push’ back.”
