AMERICAN ACCENT COURSE WITH TYLER COPPIN
Just in time for Pilot Season!
This American accent course will teach you everything you need to know about the US accent.
We often find actors self-testing for Pilot Season in the US placing a majority of their focus on their accent due to a lack of confidence. This in turn detracts from their performance.
For today’s actor, the ability to speak in a flawless Standard American accent is essential. It is becoming commonplace for film and television production companies to cast American roles using non-American actors. One thing is certain: in order to land the role, your Standard American accent must sound truly authentic.
Learning and perfecting a Standard American accent takes time, dedication and a lot of practice. It’s a wise decision to start learning one early, so that in time and with practice, your accent drops in and becomes second nature, part of you.
CLASSES WILL COVER:
- Vocal focus and sound placement
- General American cadence, emphasis and stresses
- Muscularity and resonance
- The dominant American ‘R’ sound
- Vowel sounds and consonants
- Nuances and observations
- Applying General American directly to dialogue
- Scene Work using General American
You’ll enjoy having the freedom to play the scene instead of focusing on the accent. In our American Accent class we discuss, experiment with, act, read and even improvise in the American accent.
Tyler has been training actors in the Standard American accent for over thirty years and customises his approach to suit every learning style. He has worked with many of Australia’s finest performers including Heath Ledger, Magda Szubanski and Ben Mendelsohn to name just a few. Tyler has worked on countless film, theatre and television productions as a dialect coach, is also a writer and an award winning actor in stage productions, musicals and film.
