Rob Maxwell

Rob Maxwell is a movement, voice, and acting teacher dedicated to training actors in leading conservatoires in Australia and internationally. He has taught at institutions including the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA),Yale School of Drama, Carnegie Mellon University, Actors Centre Australia, and the Australian Theatre for Young People.

Rob is the only certified Lucid Body teacher in the Asia-Pacific region. The Lucid Body is a dynamic psycho-physical acting technique that integrates body, psychology, and performance. Rooted in self-investigation, the work enables actors to recognise and release habitual patterns and access new physical and emotional possibilities. Drawing on centres of energy, Jungian concepts of Persona and Shadow, archetypes, and principles from yoga, modern dance, and neuroscience, it offers a clear framework for creating layered, truthful characters.

Alongside his movement and psychophysical work, Rob is an experienced voice teacher and coach. He holds an MFA in Voice from NIDA and has trained in Lessac Kinesensics and Knight-Thompson Speechwork, alongside a wide range of other voice methodologies. He has extensive experience in breath and vocal physiology, text integration, accent and dialect work, and Shakespeare. Rob has coached numerous stage and film productions, supporting actors to meet the vocal demands of a wide variety of genres and performance styles.

In the conservatoire environment, Rob’s teaching combines rigorous technical training with imaginative and psychological character exploration. His classes foster curiosity, technical precision, and creative risk-taking, equipping actors with the tools to work at their highest level in any medium.

Internationally, Rob has led workshops in Bangkok, Melbourne, New York, and Sydney, adapting his work for a variety of cultural and performance contexts. He is a graduate of the Atlantic Acting School in New York City.
